Riding the ancient and historic Icelandic horse is something you have to experience at least once in your life, the horse the vikings loved and rode proudly. This tour is a fun adventure where you have a good time with the famous and historic Icelandic horses, the old Nordic breed that was imported to Iceland by the vikings around year 870 and has been isolated here for the last millennium. The vikings brought the best horses with them to Iceland, and ever since they’ve been bred for being comfortable mounts to ride on in all sorts of terrain in a country that had no roads. And the horses also became friendly, yet polite, in a country with no predators for horses.
We ride in the Flokadalur valley, that is so deeply connected to the history of when vikings settled Iceland, in the mountains of the Trollaskagi area (“The peninsula of trolls and giants”), in an area famous for still weather and good weather in summertime, and snow and beauty in the wintertime. We can adjust the length of the ride, the speed, the terrain and the way we go, to the guests, so the tour is comfortable and fun for both beginners as well as experienced riders.

On this trail we enjoy the friendly horses on excellent paths while experiencing the wonderful horse imported by the vikings more than a millennium ago. We ride in green valleys surrounded by striking mountains, in the magnificent Flokadalur valley. History lovers can get to know the history of Floki the viking, the first man that tried settling Iceland, and later chose to live in what he felt was the most attractive place in Iceland, Flokadalur, and you can ask and hear more about the culture and everything your heart desires regarding Iceland.
There can be a bit of variations in some parts of the tour, depending on seasons and conditions of trails.
This tour is ideal and popular for both beginners as well as for more experienced riders.
We end with complementary refreshment drinks (tea, instant coffee, a fruit drink for the children).
Duration and price:
The whole horse experience (intro, lesson, ride, complementary refreshments) is approximately 3 hours (the trail ride itself is approx. 2 hours).

Add-on option: Icelandic traditional waffle lunch with a variety of drinks:
On top of this it is super popular to add on getting Icelandic traditional heart-shaped waffles with a choice of toppings, as many per person as you like. Toppings are either homemade blueberry jam, or the traditional Icelandic way (with homemade rhubarb jam), also whipped cream (if you like), or simply Nutella chocolate spread, pancake siryp or maple sirup. Also with hot chocolate, good real coffee, a choice of teas, or carbonated fizzy water if you like. You get that as a very cheap add-on lunch option to the other options for 2500 ISK per person. We can make glutein free waffles if booked beforehand.
